Installing MySQL on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS really is very simple.

Run the following command. When prompted, Type “Y” and hit enter.

sudo apt-get install mysql-server

The installation will progress and soon you will be asked to enter a password for MySQL.
You will need to remember this password however if you do forget it canĀ reset the mysql password.

When finished and everything has run correctly your mysql server will have started.
You can verify that it is indeed running with the following command:

sudo netstat -tap | grep mysql
